How to edit MP3 metadata
- Open an MP3 file, or drop it on the page.
- Check the details and change any field, add or replace the cover art.
- Select Save MP3 to download the file with its new tags.
Every tag, and the audio details
The editor reads ID3v1 and ID3v2.2, 2.3 and 2.4 tags, the formats every music player uses. Besides the tags it shows the length, bitrate, sample rate and channels of the audio, so it doubles as an MP3 metadata viewer.
Cover art and lyrics
Add or replace the album cover from a JPEG or PNG image, save the current one, or remove it. Lyrics are stored as an unsynchronised lyrics tag that iTunes, Apple Music, Android players and VLC show.
The sound stays untouched
Only the tag at the start of the file changes. The audio frames are copied bit for bit, so there is no re-encoding and no loss of quality. Tags the editor does not show are kept as they are.
Questions about MP3 tag editor
Is my MP3 uploaded?
No. The file is read and rewritten in your browser tab. Nothing is sent to a server.
Will saving change the sound quality?
No. The audio is copied exactly; only the ID3 tag is rewritten.
Which tag version does it write?
ID3v2.3, which Windows, macOS, iTunes, Android and car stereos all read, or ID3v2.4 if the file already had a 2.4 tag. An existing ID3v1 tag at the end of the file is updated too.
Can I edit several files at once?
Not yet: open one file at a time. Batch editing is planned.
Does it work with M4A, FLAC or WAV?
Not yet. These formats store tags differently; the editor works with MP3 files for now.
