How to convert an audio file
- Open an audio or video file, or drop it on the page.
- Choose a format and, for MP3, M4A or OGG, a quality.
- Select Save to download the converted file.
Which format to choose
MP3 plays almost everywhere. M4A sounds a little better at the same size and suits Apple devices. OGG is an open format popular in games and on the web. FLAC and WAV are lossless: they keep every detail of what your browser decoded, and the files are much larger.
Converting does not add quality
Turning an MP3 into FLAC or WAV gives a bigger file, not a better sound, because the detail removed when the MP3 was made does not come back. For the best result, convert from the original whenever you have it.
Questions about Convert audio
Is my file uploaded?
No. Your browser decodes the file and the encoders run in the page, so the audio never leaves your device.
Which files can it open?
Anything your browser can play, usually MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, Opus and FLAC, and the sound of MP4, MOV and WebM videos.
Why is M4A not offered in my browser?
M4A uses the AAC encoder built into the browser. Current Chrome, Edge and Safari have one; browsers without it can still save MP3, OGG, FLAC and WAV.
Are the tags kept?
No. Title, artist and cover art are not copied to the new file. You can add them to an MP3 with the MP3 tag editor.
