How to remove silence

  1. Open an audio or video file, or drop it on the page.
  2. Set how quiet counts as silence and the shortest pause to cut.
  3. Choose a format and select Save.

The two settings

Silence below sets how quiet a passage must be to count as a pause: raise it for a noisy room, lower it for a clean studio recording. Shortest pause leaves natural breaths alone, so only pauses longer than the length you choose are cut.

Still sounds natural

A short piece of each pause is kept on both sides of every cut, so speech does not run together or start abruptly.

Questions about Remove silence

Is my recording uploaded?

No. The silence is found and cut in your browser, so the recording stays on your device.

Nothing was removed. Why?

Background noise can be louder than the threshold. Move Silence below to the right until the time saved goes up.

Will it cut quiet speech?

It can, if the threshold is too high. Listen to the saved file, and lower Silence below if words are missing.

Can I use it for podcasts?

Yes. It suits speech best. Music has quiet passages that are meant to be there, so check the result if you use it on songs.
